Interestingly enough; One of the original founders and administrators, a gal named Sherrod DeGrippo (aka ‘Girlvinyl’) realized that (E.D. was originally about making fun of nincompoops on LiveJournal) and even tried to replace E.D. with a less-extreme alternative called Oh, Internet!. Needless to say; She got doxxed and harassed by E.D. fans for her trouble.
People like E.D., 4Chan, Kiwi Farms, etc. claim to be harmless trolls who just want to be annoying just for fun but they ruin that point when they literally stalk, harass and ruin lives…it ceases being “annoying scamps” and literally becomes acts of terrorism. That’s not “trolling”, that’s being a criminal bully terrorist antisocial.
Trolling (while I hate it and find the concept stupid) should be “Say stupid stuff on the internet and annoy people on comments sections/chatrooms/forums”, not acts of criminality. People should be annoyed or bemused, not scared for their lives or commit suicide. That’s not “LULZ”, that’s being a complete monster.
Finally; Humor is funniest when it “Punches Up”. Any humor involving someone who isn’t a “punch up” case should be “good-natured ribbing”, not genuine nastiness.
I think stuff like E.D. do what they do because “nothing is shocking” anymore. Everything has been done in rock music, movies, music, etc. “Shock Rock” is old. Satanism is old. Voodou-coffin-dwelling constipation-obsessed blues singers, wiggling hips, long hair and bat-head eating are old news and vulgar shocking stuff that punches up is too agreeable by the masses since the “powerful” tend to deserve it.
All that’s left is being a bigoted antisocial who makes sick jokes that punch down, revel in bigotry and involve actual crimes like harassment and cyberbullying.
I would rather these E.D./channers/Kiwi Farmer idiots go on stage in the nude, cover themselves in crap, commit seppuku, then immolate themselves.
