Mandatory reminder that, until Trump unilateraly tore up JCPOA, without caring for the other signatories (indeed, Obama deserved a Nobel Prize for merely managing to have Russia and China, who trade with North Korea, accept to pressure Iran), and even though Iran kept its part of the bargain, thereby making Iran enact retorsion measures (i.e. enriching uranium). Ah, and the hardliners used this as evidence against moderates that negociating with the West was a losing venture because they’re not reliable and trustworthy.
Morever, the present crisis is coming because Netanyahu, wanting to avoid prison for corruption and having already allied with the worst of his country’s political landscape, did a sneak attack on Iranian leaders including the chief negociator, either without asking the USA first or acting in concert to trap Iran into a feeling of trust. And of course, Trump followed because he wanted to look tough, making the USA a cobelligerant.
Nowadays, if Iran never intended to get nuclear weapons, the hardliners and even some moderates are thinking about going “the North Korean way.”
And of course, his goal of “regime change” is going to involve ground operations against a country of 92 millions - the last time the USA got to fight countries with such high population, it was Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany during WW2. IRaq War would be a cakewalk compared to this and the USA will waste trillions of dollars in yet anothr endless war in the Middle East, months after cutting foreign aid, scientific research and education to fund a fucking war of aggression. Meanwhile, China is looking more and more like an island of stability and will certainly invest its money in research and infrastructure to prepare for the future - a Chinese century.
