What's the point of having a military if we can't use it to keep peace domestically?

To discourage other countries from invading you and, should that not work, fight off the invaders. You could also use it to conquer weaker nations or (depending on your perpective) liberate oppressed people from tyranny/replace dictators you don’t like with your own puppet dictators. There are also other potential side-benefits, such as providing opportunities for social advancement to disadvantaged people by offering secure public service employnent with relatively low barriers of entry in terms of education and a relatively transparent institutional hierarchy, a back-up logistics infrastructure for severe national disasters, financing for long-shot research that no privare sponsor would bother financing because it would not be worth the investment on this stage because the scientists said it could lead to death rays and doomsday devices, fancy parades, luucrative contracts for overpriced redundant junk for your friends in the Military-Industrial Complex, etc.
...because when those who defend the peace from those who would threaten it from without become the weapon of that which wants to more than threaten from within ...!
Ask those who survived the Warsaw Ghetto, OP: and worse besides.
Because domestic violence is Americans. On both sides. People the military is supposed to protect.
But the way the military "keeps peace" is to kill any aggressors. It's just not crickett to shoot your own tax base.
Two thousand years ago, they would have said: "What's the point of having the legions, if we can't use them to march on Rome?" You see, military might is nothing new, nor is the oppression it can cause.
What’s the point of “keeping peace” if that supposed peace is merely living in constant fear and the only rule is that the one with the most strength decides the rules?
You might as well be bowing to gangs.
What's the point of having a military if we can't use it to shoot people I don’t like? FTFY
KK: "Yes, yes, I know : 'If you're willing to trade liberty for security, you deserve neither!' But that doesn't apply to me , because I'M not among the ones who are to lose liberty!
That's only to happen to Those People !!"
Confused?
