In Thomas’s five-page dissent on Monday, he said Washington’s ban [on conversion therapy for minors] had “silenced one side of this debate” by restricting the First Amendment rights of medical professionals. “Licensed counselors cannot voice anything other than the state-approved opinion on minors with gender dysphoria without facing punishment. The Ninth Circuit set a troubling precedent by condoning this regime,” Thomas wrote.

Leeches can be medically useful in some situations.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2004 approved the use of leeches for localized venous congestion after surgery, recognizing them as living, breathing medical devices.

A form of trepanning is still performed, but under a new name. The big improvement is that the hole is resealed (and also that most of the patients survive!)

Trepanation is not used in neurosurgery for medical purposes now. However, another procedure, called a craniotomy, is done that involves temporarily creating a hole in the skull to remove fluids or release pressure, and then closing the hole after a definite period.

Except amongst doctors, therapists, and other professionals there isn’t. Studies upon studies show that affirming children in their identity leads to demonstrably better health outcomes. The controversy is coming from a coordinated and well funded astroturfing campaign meant to use the well-being of trans-kids as a wedge issue. Funded, in part by the same people wining and dining Clarence and Ginny Thomas by the way. Even if there were a controversy conversion “therapy” wouldn’t be part of it as that. Reims of data has shown it to be torture.

So does he believe it’s a violation of the first amendment for punishing an attorney rights to advise their client to lie under oath? Or a doctor who advises a patient that they need more lead in their diets?
