I read about how one of those "studies" was conducted (actually, "concocted would be more accurate). Apparently, questionnaires were left in gay bars bathhouse, and other similar places. The "researchers" then just took all that was written uncritically as gospel truth. Like, a bunch of (possibly inebriated, drugged, or just treating the forms as a joke) patrons could be interpreted as representative of the gay population especially in the early stages of the AIDS epidemic in the 70'S and 80'S. (Yes, they.date from that far back!) In other words, complete BS.

AFAIK,"Cis"is just the complementary opposite of "trans". These are basic positional terms.There are many other uses for these terms than just the current gender identity ones.
For example, in Roman times there was a distinction between "Cisalpine" and Transalpine" Gaul (depending on which side of the Alps one was on). "Cis" is neither made-up nor offensive.

Actually IIRC, the knee fossil in question was from another separate A. aferensis individual. One of the most egregious misconceptions is that there is apparently only one fossil of each species and tat demonstrating something suspicious about it therefore disproves it. In reality there is what is called a "holotype specimen". This the first discovered fossil of a newly recognized species. It is used to provide a model for comparison and contrast in order to determine a phylogenetic classification. There are actually many specimens of A.aferensis currently, as well as of most of the other members of our ancestral hominid tree. Even if you could find true evidence in order to discredit "Lucy", it really wouldn't damage human evolutionary theory in any serious degree at all.

I personally never could understand why Deep Time would be an offense to God. Wouldn't a multi-billion-year-old universe reflect an omnific deity so much more than a mere multi-millennial one? The only reason for the YEC obsession would be to try to confirm the fundamentalist version of the Genesis account. Anthropocentrism (humans as the ultimate concern) also would be main philosophical basis,too.

I once read* that after reading Velikovsky" works, the archeologists and historians thought that the astronomic claims might have some merit, but the "historical" ones were totally wrong. The astronomers and geophysicists, on the other hand, thought the exact opposite. Each community reserved judgment on unfamiliar subjects, but were very clear on their scientific opinions concerning their own areas of expertise.

The haloclines we observe today generally are under very stable conditions (such as the aforementioned cenotes)center. From what I've heard from fundies, during the Great Flood of Noah there would have all kinds of geological mayhem going on,such as volcanic eruptions meteorite impacts,runaway plate tectonics to.name just a few.These would not last under anything remotely close to these conditions.

Believe it or not, there was actually a Chick tract (now out of print, I think) that featured the story of a kid who found out the truth about Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. This leads him to question the truth about Jesus. Because he,s a Chick tract character, he proceeds to angrily accuse his parents of deceiving him (which they did) and then, for some reason goes on to be a psychopathic monster!

Possibly this could be referring to the "Gap Theory,"which proposes that Genesis 1:1 describes an earlier Creation that was destroyed before the current one that was started in Genesis 1:2. (Some translations have the Earth "becoming" void and empty,implying the were in a different state previously. ) Yes ,I know how tardy this response is. I just have seldom seen this pointed out and figured better (very) late than never!

Confession time: I went to a fundie school in my junior high years. They used that garbage. "Science" was a joke, social studies (especially in reference to non-Christian-dominant nations/cultures) was horribly misrepresented, and even math was geared to solving Biblical-scenario word problems! English was about the only subject they didn't seriously screw up. All the "PACEs" (Packets of Accelerated Christian Education) were loaded with ( mostly irrelevant) Bible verses inserted at random intervals. It took a long time to re-educate myself and get up to the level where I should have been. That crap really messed me up!
