Don’t lose heart. Sometimes things must get really bad for things to get better.
Also; Britain has a very bad voter apathy problem.
When things get disastrous THEN the votes for Remain will come! After all; Most Brits are good people who DON’T want Brexit but they’re too stupid and apathetic to vote because voting isn’t what the “cool kids” are doing.
But the Left’s so-called loss is an illusion.
There is a silver lining.
The problem is European culture. You fetishize cynicism and pessimism cuz it’s so “KEWL” and “ARTY” and “FER REALS”. As a result, your Progressive politics is lackluster because deep down you believe the lie of “what’s the use”. You’re quitters! You’re wishy washy!
One thing in which we American can legitimately claim superiority in is our OPTIMISM, HOPE AND FIGHTING REVOLUTIONARY SPIRIT! That’s why our Left is more organized!
But you; You just sit on your butts all day rather than run for office yourself! You’d rather wait for the people in suits to run! WHY DON’T AVERAGE LEFT-LEANING CITIZENS RUN?
Where’s all those loud, proud, angry legions of young, Remain-loving citizens running for local office?
Same with other countries! If you leave it up to the influential guys in suits you’ll never have progress!
Chuck your cynicism! Embrace the TRUTH of HOPE & CHANGE AND ORGANIZE AND GET POLITICAL! Enough of this Punk Rock “Nihilism Is Cool!” Bullshit!
If we Americans can organize a decent active Left, you can, too! I know most of the UK hates Trumpism and Boris….but they rather sit on their asses in the pubs and complain!
You Euros think we Yankees are fools for our optimism, hopefulness and general fondness for “Happy Endings” in stories. We’re not fools! We THINK BIG!
And so; You otherwise better-educated Europeans who even experienced the horrors of Fascism PERSONALLY can only go half-assed with the Progressive organizing and activism because you defeat yourselves before you even begin with that subconscious feeling of “What’s the use?”.
