Where could this idea have possibly come from in the first place? Shouldn’t firsthand experience and basic theory of mind already make it implausible? Or are the people who spread it so hedonistic that they’ve never experienced sexual urges that they didn’t want?

(Or, I suppose, asexual. Either one would explain the apparent failure to comprehend the difference between a basic urge and a full-hearted desire.)

1) Stephen Colbert is conservative. Just because he can’t stand Babyhands, doesn’t make him left-wing: it just means he has both object-permanence, and standards.

2) To say that Colbert hasn’t had to deal with any real-world struggles ignores that his father and two brothers died in a plane crash when he was a kid. He still has to live with that.

There is an argument to be made that some Jews are trying to use the Holocaust as cover for their own atrocities in the middle east right now. That isn’t the argument you are making, your trying to wipe the original out of history.
As for the Auschwitz monument count, this confuses two counts. The 4 million count for Auschwitz was originally drafted shortly after WWII and was recognized at the time as being too high. This doesn’t change the overall count at all, which is derived from the number of Jews in the region before and after the war and has been worked over for decades for accuracy. It is not from direct counts of camp records. The camp records are important confirmation but are too spotty for overall count.

Actually, the reverse is true.
Transgendered people go all the way through our history. Most places, it’s been no big deal. Mostly because it was behind the scenes, and not terribly public. A few people here and there. My favorite composer, Walter Carlos was Wendy Carlos for a long time before she went public.
Then people who felt that they shouldn’t have to put up with Gays, but lost that fight, and lost the gay marriage fight, felt like the transgender fight was their ride-or-die thingy.

From what I’ve heard about Marc Andreessen, he claims to deliberately cultivate a lack of self-awareness because… being self-aware is not something “serious” people should be doing? Something along the lines of, people shouldn’t care about whether they’re “good” or “bad” or what others think, and just *do*. Happiness, for him at least, seems to come from not caring about much of anything other than making lots of money and doing stuff to make that happen. Or so I’m guessing. I’m not 100% sure what he’s trying to say about things like that and I’m not sure he does either.
