This is the thing I just realized about guys like the OP…

They literally see the male and masculinity as the “norm” and “default” while the female and femininity are merely an afterthought made to support the male and masculine. In other words; Femininity isn’t an equal-opposite, it’s an after-the-fact degeneration that Deity never planned in the beginning. Only men are fully human. To the OP; It doesn’t matter if a woman is actually smart, competent or even better than a particular man…since she’s a lesser half-human slave-being meant to serve the “real full human” male, it means nothing.

Most Jews are pretty *meh* about Jesus and Jesus himself was Jewish. If anything, the Muslims (who get hated even more by wingnuts) have more respect and veneration for the Man From Galilee.

In the Jewish diaspora, Jesus is seen at worst as a blasphemer and at best, a nice well-meaning but somewhat delusional man. Most Jews are closer to the latter.

Early in his career, Neil Diamond (a Jewish man) was given the opportunity to do a Christmas album. At first, he balked at the idea, only for his mother to tell him to do it, anyway because, “Jesus was a nice Jewish boy”.

….as for Philemon; While Paul does tell a runaway slave to return to his master, he stresses to the master to treat his slave well. Slavery back then was usually not the ‘chattel’ variety and more akin to ‘indentured servitude’ (Slavery is still a terrible thing but in the Bible, this is ‘Fair For It’s Day’).

The stuff about women being silent in Church and wifely submission were likely latter additions with the former argument plopped in the middle of an essay about men AND WOMEN prophesying in the church (Remove 1 Cor. 14:34-35 and it actually ‘flows’ better).

That said; Paul was quite the erotophobe. Man had issues with sexuality.

Finally; Paul’s writing were addressed to those churches and those particular churches’ issues and shouldn’t necessarily apply to all churches and all Christians at all times. Paul is not infallible and his Epistles are mainly HIS beliefs and opinions. Paul is not Jesus. Paul’s just a leader and theologian expressing ideas and opinions and they are not 100% binding.

In a nutshell; Christians should look to Jesus in regards to conduct and morals. Paul does not replace Jesus and even Paul implied that much of his stuff is merely his opinion or belief.
