The Sandy Hook massacre was a school shooting. If it had been a holiday the school wouldn’t have been open either. This is pointless but uses the same level of logic as expected. i.e. none.

Also like @TheKingOfRhye says, loads of places are open on holidays. My supermarket closes about 4 days a year. Back when I was on site duty I even worked on Christmas Day, along with my hearty mates Rashid and Mohammed, who would have been even more surprised than myself to learn that they were, infact, Jewish.

If MLK does turn out to be a rape monster it might stop people honouring his name, like the aforementioned “the Left and the pro-civil rights conservatives”, but little else will be stopped. The holiday will end. Maybe statues of him will go. Alveda King will shut up, and not before time.

If the racist Right start yelling and cheering about how MLK was a rapist, evil or “inclined towards dyscivilization”, it won’t actually do any of them any good. Nearly all of them are demonstratively one or more of those, and indeed Vox Day himself has admitted all three.

Orson Scott Card is not merely someone who said “I am against gay marriage”, as his supporters claim. He’s actually considerably more anti-gay than that.

Still, I liked the film, which wasn’t like any I have seen, and the film did inspire me to read some of his books. His ‘homophobia’ was not apparent in either the books or the film, unless you count the fact of the aliens being called ‘The Buggers’ (which was so obvious and crass that I’m willing to believe it was unintentional).
