Republicans have figured out that people don’t tend to notice ID fuckery quite as often as direct voter fuckery. So pass an ID requirement to vote, and then play games behind the scenes with ID, and you can restrict voting to the “right” people…
It’s also true that most people don’t see an ID requirement to vote as being a big deal. And really, under normal circumstances, it’s not; most countries require some form of ID to vote. But those countries also have standard country-wide ID with agreed upon methods for obtaining one. Just another victim of “the US federal government should stay out of how the states conduct their elections” bullshit that is the main reason the US’ voting systems are 200 years behind…
I mean, MOST of the stuff in HR1 is just common sense.
