I made a throwaway account because the world of roller derby is very small and very transphilic. I know of people who got kicked out of their leagues for being perceived as transphobic and I fear that could happen to me.
I chose roller derby because it was one of the few real women's sports. By women for women. A sisterhood. A place to be myself. The last few years the trans movement has been felt so much and men are rising through the teams much faster than women in women's teams - partly because they are so strong and partly because there is this fear of being transphobic if this trans skater doesn't make the team.
This past weekend was the roller derby championship tournament, the highest of levels one could play WOMENS flat track roller derby. 12 teams competed including mine and this year there were more trans players than ever and I came home feeling just so sad for women everywhere.
Only 160ish "women" get to compete at this event/at this level, how can it be ok for (at least) 5 of those to be men? As a player I don't enjoy playing against them, these are 6plus feet tall men, with the muscle mass of men, the strength of men, the brutal force of men. When one of them collides full force into my 120 pound frame, there is significantly more damage than when a woman does. I chose to play with and against women, not men. But even if they weren't stronger or bigger or heavier... why can't they leave one little space for women to play sports with other women?
Countless times, I've seen trans people on social media utter the sentiment, "Your allies may act like they love and respect you, but if they don't truly see you as a real woman/man, they are your enemies!" The first time I saw this sentiment, it sent a chill down my spine. I was still doing my libfem handmaiden act at the time (even though I was uncomfortable with much of the ideology). It never occurred to me that I had to BELIEVE that people could change biological sex in order to be a decent person.
I couldn't bear the thought of being associated with those evil murdering TERFs! But was it possible that I had been an evil, murdering TERF all along? How many trans people had I forced into suicide? I mean, I had plenty of trans friends and I supported them, told them I loved them no matter what, supported their political goals, respected their pronouns, tried to educate others on their behalf, went to some trans activist events, insisted their interests were part of feminism....but I did not think they had changed biological sex....
Naturally, this is when I found out I had been lied to all along about what a "TERF" is. I realized how little it takes to be called a TERF, that TERF was used to excuse violence, and that to call a woman a TERF is to prosecute her for thought crime. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I was only able to see the madness of the movement when it was my twat on the chopping block. I had previously ignored and avoided anyone deemed a TERF and just accepted that they were awful people. I had to in order to a good libfem foot soldier. Everyone knows you aren't allowed to READ what these women write or HEAR what these women say, even if it's nothing to do with trans issues at all. They are permanently black balled from public discourse.
The issue of thought crime really planted the gender critical seed in my mind, but I kept trying to be a good little ally. I kept thinking that no one would KNOW I thought this and that the thought police were just extremists. Then, I tried to sit comfortably on the fence even though there was a huge post up my ass. I even tried to argue that there seem to be different levels of exclusion and some women don't believe in any exclusion of trans people, they just deep down in their hearts don't believe trans women and cis women are the same. Needless to say, that went over like a fart in church.
...and NO ONE deep down in their hearts sees trans woman as real women or trans men as real men. Whether they admit it is a different story, but I firmly believe NO ONE believes it. The fighting was also much more severe in the DDR. There was far greater reconstruction that had to take place to begin with as the east of the country was historically underdeveloped compared to west Germany.

The demon was manifested in this woman as a drug addiction. I talked to the woman about her addiction, told her I'm going to cast out this demon of addiction and prayed to Jesus. The Holy Spirit worked with me as I told it to enter this woman and cast out the demon like in the way that Jesus describes in Matthew 12:29. At this, the woman began making noises of great discomfort.
A minute or two then went by of me commanding the demon to leave and the demon being hurt by the Holy Spirit. It had pretended like it left a few times, but I affirmed whether or not it left by asking the Holy Spirit to give me a sign. When i asked the Holy Spirit to do this, the demon would again make noises of pain.
Finally, this demon was reaching its breaking point. At this time, it had been diverting its gaze from my eyes to avoid the authority of my stare and had begun laughing at me. I then lifted the woman's head to bring the eyes to mine once more and asked "what are you laughing at?? You have no authority here! Leave, NOW!!" and with that, it left. Very intense experience. Like any social movement I don’t think vegans should let themselves be divided by the question of violence. Nobody likes it, we shouldn’t fetishize it as a movement, but situationally it probably can turn out useful and we should stand in solidarity those who endorse or use it reasonably.
