It’s been years since I had a true winter, The seasons are out of whack, flooding in my city has turned from a rare thing to a thing that happens every time it rains, and temperature records are being broken just about every year.

But climate change can’t be true, right? It’s not like there are billions of people releasing chemicals into the atmosphere. /s

Like me, Eric Arthur Blair was British. Over 41° C in Nottinghamshire a couple of weeks ago. In my locale Hull, it was hotter than Cairo then. Proof that Climate Change is Reality.

Some climate change apocalypticism exists, although it's generally a straw man presented by denialists. The scientific view itself is not alarmist but alarming. Activist groups need to be alarmist at times because mitigation is important and is not yet happening at an acceptable scale. Without said mitigation, the cost to society is expected to be important and growing. Other than more erratic weather, hurricanes, heat waves and floods, burning forests and smog, the cost will unfortunately also include more disease, food and water safety issues and human conflicts. Even with fair mitigation, there is no proposed utopia, but it is expected to slow down the process and to hopefully help before potential vicious cycle tipping points that suddenly drasticly increase warming are attained.

All too often "common sense" just means hereditary prejudices. "It's always been this way so it will always be this way."

Science deliberately rejects common sense for a very good reason: it usually fails to predict the future.

Right, and then don't use the propaganda method, on the web, self-published and pop-sci books, but the relevant climatology scientific journals. It's the only way that may make the scientific consensus change if your discoveries have merit. But since that's not what you really want, you will keep using the false, misleading and pseudoscientific propaganda method. And to promote false conspiracy theories, because you must somehow dismiss the actual scientific community and its findings.

Seconded. It’s been, what, two years since I last saw snow in my native country (Belgium) in the winter, when normally we do have a decent amount. Not to mention the summers get more hot and dry each year.

Regardless of wether or not you agree on what exactly causes climate change, it’s stupid that there are still people denying that it happens at all.

Now explain how 48 years in the banking business gives anyone knowledge about ecology and climate science. Turn it around – if you found out that the new CEO of your bank or investment company had 48 years experience as a climatologist, would you leave your money there or find another place where people knew what they were doing?

And based on your citation of George Orwell makes me think you’ve never read either 1984 or Animal Farm, but just quote a few lines you’ve read out of context.
