Every day I am more convinced that all creatures, including humans, were also meant to be female-only parthenogenic and to have romantic and sexual relationships with other females in that context. These creatures are all female (the males are non-viable) and do reproduce through parthenogenesis. However, they can only reproduce through parthenogenesis; therefore every successive generation has more genetic damage and more repeated chromosomes. An offspring of parthenogenesis is actually more inbred than the offspring of a brother and sister; their parents were literally the same organism.

Whiptail lizards are unique in their all-female populations. That should tell you that they are an anomaly, not a blueprint for the rest of life on Earth.

The OG form of sexual reproduction was not lesbianism but hermaphroditism. This does have the advantage of flexibility in that any individual can do either reproductive role, or even both at the same time. Notable that some unusual species of worms have no females, only males and hermaphrodites. I suspect what happened was that males developed first because producing only sperm is the least metabolically costly option for individuals, increasing individual survival odds, and the hermaphodites in most early species lost their sperm-producing ability later, as unless mates are difficult to find it’s somewhat redundant. This doesn’t necessarily mean that vertebrate biology evolved the same way, but it’s notable that thus far we’ve seen no species with a female and hermaphrodite split.
