We just reintroduced HR 899 to improve education in the United States. (Submitter’s note: a flag emoji was used instead of the United States.)
The bill is one sentence:
“The Department of Education shall terminate on December 31, 2022.”

It doesn’t, but that doesn’t matter. They hate the Department of Education because it’s in favor of teaching people science, and at least it’s trying to change the way it handles teaching about women, LGBT people, POC, etc. So basically everything those sponsoring assholes and their supporters are terrified of. So while abolishing it definitely doesn’t do anything good, it benefits these assholes who want a less educated populace. Oh sure, I’m sure they’ll allow us to keep our schools (if this goes through which hopefully it won’t...), but I’m guessing they’ll try to force prayer in schools, cancel sex ed, make it so anyone who teaches civics or history or anything really has to teach a specific set of facts that would look right at home in a 1950s classroom.
Good thing will never for a number of reasons but what do you lot intend to replace it with? A entirely privatized system? 'cause that'd work re A well...😒
Sad thing is there are A lot of people truly believe doing just that would improve education in this nation rather then cause far more harm than good.
There's an extremely good reason why even home schooling here in Britain has to conform to the curriculum set out by the Ministry of Education: by law .
...and considering the 'alternative' suggested by those - including Buboe - one doesn't need to be Prof. Stephen Hawking to see why.
The reason why can be summed up in one word, OPs:
China.

That's it! That's it exactly! How do these idiots not see such an essential investment in their own continued economic survival? You don't get industry leaders from a workforce that can't make heads or tails of a contract, can't file reports, can't figure out a shipping label, or needs picture books instead of operating manuals for machinery. Hell, they'd be lucky to be able to fill out a job application properly.
Try to negotiate with potential investors or your foreign competition when you've got a grand total of five employees that can read so much as a motivational poster without them laughing in your face. There would be absolutely no confidence for the former and the latter will eat your business for breakfast.
Can you even imagine how training new hires would be impacted? The added time and expense? If all you care about is a bottom line that right there is reason enough, small business and anywhere with a high turnover will suffer. And man, a proper secretary is going to be hard to come by.
…Is- is this real? I mean, I sometimes joke about these morons being philistines (I hope that’s the right term) but I never dared to imagine there would be true anti-intellectualists of that magnitude in the US government!
facepalm FFS!! In the name of all that is sane and rational; how is the US even a world power at this point?

Knowing this lot, I think the idea is more that it is properly the parents, not society at large through the government, that shapes their respective children. I suspect they think that the parents’ self-interest—in this case, desire for the family name to be exalted—will lead them to seek out only the very best mentors for their children. Better than bureaucrats et al. possibly could for total strangers, something humans are supposed to be psychologically incapable of caring about.
There it is, the Plague RRRRRRRats ultimate goal-to make everyone else as stupid as they are. In the end, I doubt this will get far. The sociopathic business criminals that own the Plague Rats are smart enough to know that they’ll be requiring their workers to be at minimum, literate & able to operate machinery, to say nothing of competing in a global market. I wonder if this is nothing but yet another bloody chunk of red meat these Rats are throwing to their majini. Anything to distract from the opening day of Pig Vomit’s trial…which ain’t going so well for him.
Carl Sagan covered this sort of mentality in The Demon Haunted World. Basically, nobody wants to get rid of the fruits of science (especially weapons), but the scientific process, science performed not simply to make tools but simply for the enjoyment of it, might lead one down dangerous paths, such as questioning why society is built the way it is.
That’s part of why they promote trade schools while bashing higher education (not that trade schools are even remotely bad, it’s just the intentions of these ghouls that I take issue with).

Perhaps we should try to sell them to some of the smarter countries. They would make perfect zoo specimens; they could be put in a common area & given unlimited wifi access & a beer tap. Charge people 5 euros to stand back & watch the fun! People are entertained & we can get rid of our Plague Rats.
Behold-the common Americanus Imbecilicus. Step right up & watch them scurry to explain the Deep State! See them flail as they attempt to justify their adoration of a fat criminal who smears himself with orange paint! Hear them squeal in righteous indignation! Watch them dodge flying beer mugs as they get into fights over who loves Pig Vomit more! All this & more, folks! Only 5 euros to watch them scramble to eat pork rinds off the floor! Please-do not throw coins into the enclosure.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
