(on a thread about Christianity declining among younger people)

Maybe young folks wouldn't abandon Christian churches if the people running those churches did a better job. It's the prejudice and dishonesty of the Church, the unabashed greed, the rampant child sex abuse and the automatic cover-ups that destroy faith. No social movement like feminism is eroding church attendance; your own behavior is at fault.

Good.
“he result is society that abandons God”
Is it? I still believed in God when i left the Church. It’s Christainity they’re leaving. Old rules and old stereotypes and old bigotry that belongs in an older world.
You ARE the Skinner meme. You’re fine, it’s everyone else that’s wrong.
Hope that thought keeps you warm as you fade into obsolescence.
The fact that christian churches cannot find a dictatorship that they would not support in exchange for access to people's donations tells how everything we need to know about their claims of morality. Churches are a vessel for priestly greed. Some priests might be good people (though I will need evidence for any given individual, considering how many are proven crooks and predators), but the organisations for whom they work all hide rot and corruption in their structures. One would think that a god who supposedly once wiped out cities if not the whole of humanity for their wickedness, would clean up the parasites who prey on the flock of the faithful. Either this god does not care, or it does not exist. Neither possibility is an argument in favour of the morality of the christian god.

Well, I don’t call myself a socialist, I’m more of a left-libertarian or maybe a social democrat….but aside from the semantics, I don’t see a damn thing wrong with that.
There was a bit of hysteria in 1870s France (and to a lesser extent, some other parts of Western Europe) about young people de-centering the role of religion in their lives. Granted, that’s not the same as leaving the church, as virtually everyone stayed Christians, it’s just that other things were of equal or greater importance. I don’t know if you can trace the very gradual decline of the church everywhere all the way back to “La Décade” as it was called, but as a general thing “Christianity in decline” is not remotely new.
Now how much “progressivism, socialism, and feminism” have to do with that, and whether they’re a cause or effect, is unclear. There are forms of Christianity which are compatible with some or all of those things, so I’m going to say “probably not much”.
Confused?
