There is. It has a lot to do with women though. First with STEM, the hierarchy in the workforce always favors the smartest/most knowledgeable people. This means you can't flirt your way to the top or simply just "make it" eventually.
The work is somewhat quantifiable, so people can be tracked in how much work they do. You can't sit around and chat or take extra time off and fuck around. People will find out.
Many fields have horrible deadlines and any person not finishing their work on time can slow an entire project and become the weakest link. When you're holding up something that thousands of people are working on, relying on, etc and they're all waiting for you, not fun. Additionally you'll be pushed to do overtime, heavy overtime. When it comes to software development for example, in the last few months leading up to release, you'll be better off bringing extra clothes and a sleeping bag to work. This can apply to virtually all other fields in different ways for different reasons.
Women and men study differently. Women are great and memorizing but don't focus on understanding. This is why there's a relatively equal amount of girls/boys in STEM the first year, but then it significantly favors the boys as time passes. The problem is that women do great on tests, but don't bother to understand that knowledge, which is fairly important later on and everything you learn will be used in the future (as you move from first to 4th year). This is why girls have been doing better (or so it seems) ever since standardized tests.
There are no problems in STEM for women. There's nobody out there trying to hold them back. My university cracked down hard on this shit, even had security cameras installed to ensure there was no harassment or sexism going on. And you know what changed? Nothing.

I have been reading some really interesting dialogue lately between Christians and atheists. For the most part, I've read some great questions and thoughts. Most of what I have read from atheists seems to argue that logic demands that the Christian faith is a farce, or at least highly improbable. I don't seek to address that thought per se, but to take a step back and look at the concept of logic as a starting point. Forgive me for a broad generalization, but it seems that most atheists arguing against the Christian faith are arguing, ultimately, that logic is king. I don't see many atheists arguing that the story of Jesus isn't beautiful. Or that Scripture isn't poetic. Or that Christians are incapable of love. It always comes down to logic. "The Christian faith isn't logical. It can't be true."
I have a thought on this: What if the corridor of "logic" is not the path through which we are intended to arrive at what is "true"? Some people start from a paradigm that says, "Whatever is most logical is most likely to be true," and, for many, their end point is atheism or agnosticism. But what if, rather than logic being king, we were to allow beauty, or poetry, or love to be "king"? Would we find the story and the claims of Christ to be easier to accept? This is not to disregard logic as useless, but to see it merely as a mode of thinking which could potentially be pitted against beauty, or poetry, or love, etc. as a litmus test for what is "true".
So, is the Christian faith "true"? Yes, I believe so. And for me, it is true because it is the most beautiful concept I have ever encountered, Scripture is the most poetic account I have ever read, and Christ displays the highest level of love that I can imagine. I am compelled to embrace Jesus not because I have been argued to Him logically, but because I am drawn to Him as one is drawn to a sunset or to a beautiful song or an act of compassion. Logic has a place in my faith, but it is secondary to beauty, and poetry, and love.
This is where I stand right now. Tomorrow, I may have to re-evaluate my position. But I value your input and your critiques.

I currently work as a paramedic. When the need arises, I must be able to provide sufficient care to any patient, or be able to refuse patient care if I deem that the area I'm in isn't safe enough. While working a few weeks ago, a lady had fallen, fractured her pelvis, broke a leg, had internal bleeding, and I had to treat her accordingly.
While treating her at her home, I was making small talk with her in an effort to ensure that she felt safe. She eventually laid back and asked if I was a church going person, to which I replied truthfully that I wasn't. This upset her so much, that she refused care from us any longer. She said,"I don't want a dirty athiest to be near me". Legally, if someone without any type of altered mental status refuses care, I cannot provide it. I asked her again, her family, and my medical director in attempts to change her mind, and I informed her of the circumstances. She still refused, so I had to get her to sign the proper documentation and then I left.
Shoot forward two days, and I learned that this woman had died due to internal bleeding, and cardial failure caused by the extraneous bleeding. At this moment, I feel extremely guilty because I was supposed to be caring for her. I didn't think it would be that much of a problem to her, knowing her provider at the moment wasn't a follower of religion. Now, I have to go to court for it. Her husband is attempting to sue(it won't go through since I have all the proper documents and followed proper protocols. Also, the Good Samaritan Laws help)since he thinks I'm the reason she passed.
Seriously? This is one of the reasons I think people shouldn't take on a religious belief. Not only do I have to go to court, but I feel extremely guilty this happened over a trivial matter.

personally, I find the common atheist assertion that "these books were written by man" completely irrational and ahistorical. Who exactly is their author? There's no historical documentation that suggests it, and in many cases, it would require widespread conspiracy to perpetuate the fraud - which also lacks evidence. Yet atheists continue to insist, utterly without any evidence, that there was some phantom author.

Atheists claim themselves to be anti-Christian yet they follow beliefs that arose from Christianity(i.e. current idea of God, humanism, individualism and even rationalism). And rather than going in the direction of truth they have gone in the exact opposite direction.
