First of all, it was a figurative, not literal statement. I responded to someone equally as dense as you with the mass murder atrocities carried out by communists.

Secondly, fascism is nationalist socialism. Mussolini was a socialist before he came up with fascism. I won’t explain to you how that came to be, but socialists in Italy and Germany hated Mussolini and Hitler, because they were stealing support away from socialists parties.

Mussolini was fascist. He merely, similar to National Socialists used it: to appeal to people.

When fanatics get disillusioned, often, rather than mellowing out and adopting a more moderate and nuanced form of their ideology, they just cross over the horseshoe to become fanatics for another, frequently even an opposed, cause.

Ah yes, by cynically appealing to the angry masses and harnessing discontent with the system by misdirecting them towards scapegoats, thereby ingratiating themselves with the elites. They then engage in rampant corruption and otherwise engage in theatrical actionism with no coherent economic policy or plans (beyond military build-up, expecting to repay their debts with spoils of war) that is ineffectual at best, if not outright economically devastating.

There’s also the fact that Fascist groups often engaged in violence against Socialists or that their form of socialism was more about giving to their selected group the spoils of the “lesser groups” to buy their support than anything else.
