Ya know, with how often Leftists will utterly simp for violent lunatics & proven criminals and will do horrible crimes themselves in their name, you can totally write a superhero story with a similar premise where the various villains in a city get the best kind of PR from the mainstream media and utterly slander the heroes who are actually doing the job that Law Enforcement is prevented from doing due to the corruption of the local government. And those villains get their own groupies that want to be criminals to "fight the power".

Like imagine a new version of Batman where he gets the Spider-Man treatment with Gotham's own J. Jonah Jameson (who'd be more Hasan Piker in this case) shamelessly defending the various psychotic criminals that Batman & the police capture and finally sent to BlackGate Prison (Because they haven't ever attempted to turn their life around in Arkham and continue to be genuine threats to the people of Gotham over and over again). Saying that those criminals are the real victims and that Batman and the Police should disband.
