This kind of projection reminds me of when I used to get into arguments with fundies in the comment sections on “Christian News Network” back around the time Obergefell was going on and same-sex marriage was their big issue. Normalization of bigotry and abuse is part of the conflict doctrine phase of the fascist agenda and has been accelerated by Trump, Carlson and many trolls, some foreign interference agents. Some troublemakers who want to portray themselves as persecuted martyrs even do public stunts to provoke violence including against them. Some also do this with the hope that the less privileged of society, often victims of systemic bigotry, ultimately suffer most of the backlash, to "keep them in their place", produce a chilling effect against peaceful protest, etc.
