On one hand their morality is highly calibrated to the point they get mad at you if you cause a sea turtle anxiety by getting too close to them.

On the other hand they have no issue with giving cows anxiety by sending them to a slaughterhouse

Sea turtles are wild animals which are an endangered species. Cattle are neither.

I wouldn’t call veganism a cult but while vegetarians are mostly normal people, it’s rare to meet a normal vegan. It’s not a direct parallel, but think of them like R.S.P.C.A. (the people you call when an animal’s in trouble) versus PETA (the nutters).

This is what extreme veganism does to an average person.
From reasonably hating on some food industries not properly treating their animals, to full on “DIE BECAUSE YOU’RE NOT VEGAN” insanity.
If I was vegan, I would tell them that they make the vegan community look VERY bad, and that they should be nicer to non-vegans.

Toupee fallacy - like thinking that most/all toupees are bad because the bad ones stick out. You notice the militant vegans, but either mostly don’t notice the non-militant ones or mistake them for vegetarians.

That being said, both militant vegans and militant anti-vegans are somewhat common and, well, generally kind of psycho, as the various people in the OP demonstrates.

No matter which “side” you’re on in the….well, what I guess is the “meat–eaters vs vegans debate”…that’s a little out of line, jeez. Personally, I always thought (obviously) what I eat is my business and what you eat, or don’t eat, is yours.

Heh. It's erroneous, as there's been scientific and legal work to attempt to reduce the suffering of farmed animals. Of course, there are other issues, like sutainability, pollution, etc. Also true with massive plant farming. I was raised eating meat and still eat some, as a rational animal I admit that it can be strange to eat other animals, but we've also been doing it since there were humans. Some of it is instinct, there's also culture, necessity, etc. For my parents blood was taboo, so I don't know blood pudding and am not inclined to want to try it. According to my dad, who knew it before converting, it was pretty good. I've had some game that I found tasted too much of iron for my taste, giving me the impression that I bit my lip. If blood sausage tastes of iron, I might not really enjoy it.

It's very different though, considering that they don't share our mammal neurology, not even that of chordates, meaning that there's no center to experience pain the way we do. But harm that can lead to the death of any organism is possible... In our case, even minimal harm could produce intense pain and suffering, then if we effectively manage that pain, it's impressive what the body can withstand.
