Catacombs are just underground ossuaries, not supervillain lairs, and there are more than sixty of them in Rome. By the way, (@Peacemonger373), the idea that they served as hideouts for the persecuted Christians os ahistorical - it’s just that, when the Christians were banned from practicing their religion in public in the second Century, that meant they were excluded from the overground cemeteries, so the catacombs below (and catacombs were confined to the boundaries of the graveyard above, which is why they were designed for stackable storage), which they (as well as the Jews) were already using heavily due to rejecting the cremation that was dominant at the time, and due to the cult of saints, the catacombs became places of high spiritual significance.
