1. You have to have time to go to the DMV and wait. I spent 4 hours at the DMV here when I had to get my car registered. Back in Colorado, it was maybe an hours wait after walking in. I had a coworker who had to come in at midday because he needed to get his license plate and his plan to get there right as the door opened.
2. The DMV requires documents to get stuff. I had to delay registering my car because my dad was also on the car title and they wanted a signed document from him. Good luck if you can’t find your birth certificate and supporting documents to affirm that you do in fact live somewhere.
3. The offices themselves can have limited hours or be a drive away, costing more time and gas to get here. The Republicans were notorious about this last election when they had one polling place in a district with a lot of black people but all the other district had several despite being much less populated.
4. Voting is a right. There should be no barriers to be able to use it. I’ve yet to hear of any Republican proposing ways to help people get whatever ID they want to use as a voting ID.
