Sorry, I’ve read thousands of books, both fiction and non-fiction, that were labeled “young adult.” I found most of the mystery and science-fiction ones to be as enjoyable as those considered “adult,” and found many of the non-fiction ones to be clearer than many written for adults. In the cases of writers who write both adult and juvenile books (Robert Heinlein and Andre Norton come to mind), ignoring the juveniles means missing out on a large part of their creativity.

I don’t have any visceral reaction toward gays, largely because I don’t spend any time thinking about how other people are having (or not having) sex. Do you think about your hetero neighbors having sex? Do you look at each couple on your block and wonder which one prefers to be on top, how often they have sex, and what they look like naked? If you only think about gay couples having sex, you might want to examine why you’re so obsessed with it. In either case, you might want to find a more productive hobby, such cabinetry or gardening. At least then at the end of the day, you’ll have something to show for your efforts.

Virtually all human origins stories came from early tribes sitting around a fire and saying, “Where do you think the world came from?” Since they had no knowledge of or experience with thousands of years or more, or of any part of the world more than a hundred miles from their birthplace, all they had was their imaginations. Since they were also surrounded by natural events they couldn’t predict or understand (heavy rains, droughts, earthquakes, volcanoes, etc.) it was natural to make up powerful beings (gods) who actually controlled those events. In spite of their great powers, these gods could be bribed or placated with sacrifices of food, property and sometimes people. The shamans/holy men/priests, too lazy to work, quickly learned they could live a life of ease by claiming they could talk to and control the gods. Of course, if their prayers didn’t work, they blamed it on the people who didn’t have enough faith, or didn’t provide a large enough sacrifice/bribe.

They don’t. The bottom line is the most important thing a company. Advertisers run every commercial past focus groups that they think represent the target audience. If the commercials receive negative responses, they are changed or dropped. If multi-ethnic casts in commercials draw well from focus groups, they’re going to appear more often. Sorry you don’t like seeing people unlike you on tv, but they’re a reality.
