I’ve seen a photo of an Indian woman with a set of twins, a boy and a girl. The boy was definitely fed better than the girl. The photo is heartbreaking.

The men are the moneymakers; women are the support staff. As is business, support staff is more expendable. In some cultures the boys are the ones take their parents in old age. The girls only go into other families, so are girls are not as good as an investment.

In Jack London’s White Fang there is a famine. A group of Indians give all the food to the hunters, because they must keep of their strength. There’s a passage about the women and children weeping from hunger.

I was threatened with rape by a classmate in 6th grade. I made him mad; I don’t remember what I did wrong. He was a creepy kid. His favorite book was The Boston Strangler. Once when the teacher was out of the room he read passage out of it, something about the strangler removing a sanitary napkin from his victim and throwing it behind the tv.

During a recess period, a few students, including myself, had to stay inside. One of the kids had a tape recorder. Creepy boy did a mock confession tape. He confessed to raping Brenda (not her real name). Brenda was lively, popular with the other kids girl. I don’t know why he picked her as his “victim.”

Years later I wonder what happened to him. I never saw him after 6th grade. Did he get professional help? Did he wind up in reform school or prison? Did someone kill him? I half expected to read about him caught as a serial killer.

I remember George Gilder. He wrote The Naked Nomads and Suicide of the Sexes. He wrote about unmarried men who are having problems of alcoholism, drug abuse, and crime. To solve these problem, they needed to get married and have children. Having a family would give them a purpose. Women needed to stay in traditional female occupations until they got married. Then they would be homemakers and mothers. He noted when women entered traditional male fields, salaries dropped.

In Marriage: Grounds for Divorce, the author, twice divorced man, suggested that formal education should be stopped at age 16. “No wonder he’s divorced,” said my brother.

The late Phyllis Schlafly suggested lower wages would help women get married. What?

I love the story I heard about an aunt’s sister. This happened in the early 1960s when women’s skirts were longer. On a high school bus the bus monitor ran his hand up her skirt.
