It's a weird one with Eastern Europeans as they're lumped in with the oppressors despite being the victims of genocide within living memory and most never having had a settler-colonial nature beyond the borders of Europe.
One can be oppressed and also be an oppressor at the same time. White able bodied cis women for example are oppressed as women but they can oppress someone who is not white, or someone who is trans, or someone with disabilities (to just name a few). They can also take the oppression they are experiencing and turn it on other women who they don’t see as their equals. Men of color can be sexist and homophobic and ableist. White people with disabilities can be racist and sexist and homophobic and depending on their disability and when they became disabled, can also be ableist toward those they don’t see as their equals.
And yes, they are the victims of a genocide in living memory. That doesn’t seem to always stop people from doing it to others though. Russians experienced a genocide on the part of Hitler and Germany, which, like you said, is in living memory. However, and this is ongoing, they are currently committing a genocide against a group of ethnic Turks they want to kick out of Russia. Also, never having had a settler-colonial nature outside Europe? What do you think Russia’s actions in Central Asia were then? Or does Central Asia not count?
