This right here, more than anything else, tells me that they see their own god as a piece of furniture, something to be added and removed and placed about the room to accentuate the Feng Shui, more than any watermark of moral behaviour. They want some golden calf idol to dance around and fling wreaths of flowers onto, while perhaps not-so-silently condemning those of us who don’t need their paranoid bunny-boiling war god to keep us in our moral lane. We are truly Cthulhu to these people, alien beings with unknowable minds and inscrutible motivations, aren’t we?
And of course he also ignores how other countries, secular countries that have embraced things like evolution, climate change, and not being an utter fuckwad to non-heteronormative people, don’t see mass shootings anywhere near what the US does. Canada alone has had 15 mass shootings since 1885. The US? 252. Since. January.
We watch your movies, play your video games, and have “pushed God out of the public circle,” yet we’re not seeing the levels of bloodshed our neighbours to the South are? Why is that, Tony? Could it be because up here, you can’t walk into a Wal-Mart and buy a gun without any kind of fuss? I’ve only ever seen, in 39 years on this Earth, one place that even sells guns - it was a local hardware store, it was in the camping and sportsgood section, and they were behind glass, a counter, and about a metric fuckton of legal red tape before anyone could own it.
Maybe if you mandated that people had to know how to use a gun, had to take a gun safety course or pass a psychological exam before they were handed their replacement-penis, you wouldn’t see this shit nearly so much. But no, in the US, the Ten Commandments have been replaced by the Two Amendments - “Thou Shalt Spout Hate and When Confronted For It, Shield Thyself With Freeze Peach,” and “Thou Shalt Have Mine Gun When Thou Dost Pull It From Mine Cold Dead Hands.”
