It’s late 2030s. Trump did manage to pull a Grover Cleveland in 2024, returning to the White House as the 47th president. The second Trump Administration enacted a law known as the V.A.T.A.B. - Visible Anatomical Traits At Birth - Act.
It says that anyone’s gender identity is entirely about their VATAB. Feeling born in the wrong body, non-binary or anything else is oficially defined as mental illness and will get you locked up in some Gender Deviance Correction Facility. Even though Trump’s second term as president ended about a decade ago, Trump has died, the V.A.T.A.B. Act is still in effect.
The main character is a trans person who starts off as an inmate in a GDCF. Like all the others, (s)he is referred to only by their “Patient Number”, in this case 66441. Twice a week, 66441 is injected with a drug cocktail that induces a sleepwalking-like state where the drugged person’s resistance to suggestion is greatly reduced and put through a Clockwork Orange - style ‘treatment’ to affect his/her subconcious into loathing their trans identity so that he/she starts identifying as the gender indicated by their VATAB.
But one day, a small meteor explodes outside the GDCF while 66441 is being ‘treated’, releasing an on Earth unknown form of radiation that affects the ‘treatment’ monitor causing it to zap 66441 with an altered form of that radiation, which reacts with the drug mix in their system. As 66441 appears dead, they’re sent to the morgue. But hours later, 66441 revives having been mutated into having powers like telekinesis, teleportation, increased muscle strength and ability to temporarily transition into the sex they identify as.
66441 escapes and becomes a fugitive, branded an enemy of the state.
