Even in 2017 this was bullshit, Iron heart was never Iron man no one believed she would replace him, she hulk was never meant to be a replacement for the Hulk and was never treated as such. These are just variations despite his bullshit claims.
As for the Doctor, there was no rule saying he wouldn't be reborn as a woman. This was really the dumbest thing to be upset about as it was never against the established rules. You can dislike how that era of Dr. Who was written but there was nothing wrong with it happening.
