There were female and black superheroes in comics kicking ass during a time where women were expected to stay in the kitchen and black people were treated like second class citizens in real life.

Hell, the X men even started as a metaphor for the civil rights movement (Professor X and Magneto were even expies of MLK and Malcom X respectively) !

Edit: Let's not forget in 1966 Stan Lee created Black Panther partially out of a desire to introduce more black heroes in comics (ZoMG forced diversity 11111!!!!)

People are rioting because they're sick of being mistreated/killed by police who get away with it. This has going on for years, it's just that recently more incidents have been caught on tape.

Cops who commit murder are rarely investigated let alone punished in any way thanks to the blue wall of silence and a system which lets cops get away with murder(literally). Doesn't help that officer testimony is almost always taken as gospel.

A civilian who goes around killing others will usually be investigated, arrested and jailed.

A bad cop has the power to easily ruin and even end the lives of innocent civilians and get away with it.
