Something makes me think discipline to this person is neglect and pain.
My great grandmother believed in punishing girl babies who cried. “Let them cry,” she always said, “they need to learn the world doesn’t revolve around them.” This didn’t apply to boys. She ran to all my great uncles the second they started making any fuss. It not only taught my grandmother and my great aunts that the world doesn’t revolve around them, it taught them they don’t matter, no one cares about them, no one loves them, and they’d better get on their knees serving everyone because otherwise they are burdens the world is better off without. It’s the same message that side of the family tried to show me, and it sucks.
Funny, all the men on that side of the family do think the world revolves around them.
