The thing that scares me is that after years of these weekend warriors talking big behind their keyboards about how they're ready to take on the army and shit, they didn't even have to fight the army or fire a shot to get into the Capitol building. There was violence and a few lives lost, but nothing like the bloodbath they masturbate to in their fantasies. The point being that its kind of terrifying how easy it was for them. All the members of government had been ushered to a safe place, but what if they hadn't? What if the mob had been faster? More violent? Better armed?
We absolutely cannot forget Trump and what he inspired that day. I firmly believe that part of the lukewarm reaction of the Capitol police was a feeling of "This doesn't happen in America," which lead to them not knowing how to react. A small part, but still a part.
My darker and more vindictive side says that the officers around and in the building that day should have shot more of them than just Ashli, but that would have also required them to not be complicit. Because if the politics were reversed and it was BLM protesters on the street, they would have been much more ready to open fire.
