Transformers are Fox News' Megyn Kelly's Latest Outrage Target
While the Transformers Earthspark show has been around for months, Megyn Kelly, of Fox News fame, only learnt now that the show includes the non-binary character Nightshade. She doesn't watch the show but commented on a clip featuring Nightshade discussing their pronouns with a human, calling it "disgusting". The reason this is being brought up here is because with Transformers being a franchise from the 80s, it rarely gets discussed in the older demographic (60 and up) and now Megyn has raised the show's awareness to them, who follow her, spreading outrage. This is just the latest outrage she is sharing with her base, the previous one being earlier in the week when regarding the US army employing a drag queen for recruitment purposes (even though the army has a long history of drag).

They are a robot. It just goes to show exactly how fucking stupid transphobia and enbyphobia are. Now all of a sudden robots, which are genderless unless and until we assign on to them, must be either boys or girls… this is way up there on the dumbest things ever list…
“… and now Megyn has raised the show's awareness to them, who follow her, spreading outrage.”
Trump admits to crimes on a live broadcast, Congress admits they can’t find anything to prosecute about Biden, but it’s a kid’s cartoon that’s causing OUTRAGE. The only response to this shit is, ‘Yes, yes, grandma, let’s get you back to your knitting.’

yeah exactly I mean they don’t reproduce in the same way organics do so why the hell do they have gender in the first place? To me, the Cybertronians were all genderless until they came into contact with gendered species liked the idea and adopted it into their own framework, but technically speaking all Cyberonians are non-binary as a general rule until they say otherwise…
Although the fact that these “machines” evolve naturally on a metal world puts a damper on this anyway, shit they call their internal stuff biology for fuck’s sake so who the hell knows exactly WHAT the cybertronians truly are as machines is just a way for us to understand what they are when in reality they’re something else entirely.
How can sentient pieces of metal have genders, Meggers…?!
…besides, these days it’s just 0s & 1s one sees on a screen. It’s the reason why so many productions of certain genres/types are made so quickly, compared to say… cel animation. How things have progressed so quickly, and in more ways than one. So Optimus Prime is male purely because that character is voiced by Peter Cullen? Is the main character in “Ouran High School Host Club” male because that person wears clothing corresponding to that gender? What gender are the representations of gemstones in “Land of the Lustrous”?
And you’d better not learn who voices the male character - Mahiro - in “Haiyore! Nyaruko-san” as your SAN points will go through the floor with that revelation.

They don't have biological sexes, but that doesn't preclude gender as a means of self-identification as I understand the concept. Admittedly my understanding might be lacking.
Oh my. Someone should press this point to her face. She might be forced to accidentally admit that to insist on thinking of mechanical entities with no sexual organs as being male or female *requires* viewing gender as an intangible abstract or else there very much NEEDED to be a clarification that "they" is a proper form of address and there are indeed beings that are not subject to this binary designation which these dipshits go into conniptions when they hear it.
@Passerby
Precisely. Who knows if - in, say… future comics by IDW - in a parallel world scenario, Optimus Prime could be female like Arcee…?!
You can bet that Meggers here doesn’t - or daren’t - know about the concept of Rule 63.
You can bet II that more than just comics writers/illustrators do.

Other way around, believe it or not. The writer of the 1986 Transformers movie said in an interview that he created Arcee starting with his first draft of the movie script and pushed for Hasbro to keep her in the film (and to include more female TFs as a whole) because his daughter was already a fan and knew other girls who liked the franchise too.
I briefly scanned a Transformers fanfic several years ago where their male/female parts were detachable. The story used it for the purpose of outrageous sex acts, but imiagine if there was an episode where the robots just had a reason to switch their identities. Plug-and-play, or shifting the polarity, or just loading the correct app…
The writer’s purpose might just be to explore terribly different life forms and our assumptions, but of course the Right would explode head by head…
They don’t have genitals, and they probably don’t reproduce anything like biological organisms, so at minimum any purposefully gendered appearance would be entirely superficial. Perhaps also useful for social purposes, since apparently they do have genders and a very-close-to-human psychology (for out-of-universe reasons, to make them more understandable to human children, clearly) but likely not anything more than that.
Of course, if any race had binary genders, it would be robots. But nobody said it had to be a single binary digit; it could be that males are 10 and females are 01, but occasionally you get a 00 or a 11. (I’m joking; even if they had fully binary processors, it’s not likely that any sapient machine’s experience of gender would be simple enough to be reduced to a few bits.)
Confused?
