A loyal Kremlin propagandist suggested that Moscow should drop a nuclear bomb over Siberia as a way to convey a message to the West amid the grinding war with Ukraine, sparking backlash from officials in the Russian territory, according to multiple reports.

"If we were to conduct a thermonuclear explosion, a nuclear explosion, hundreds of kilometers above our own territory, someplace in Siberia, nothing scary would happen on the land," Simonyan said, according to a translation by the Russian Media Monitor.

"There will be no nuclear winter where everyone is afraid. There won't be horrific radiation that will kill everyone … None of that will happen,"

Simonyan added, according to the translation, that it would "disable" all electronics and satellites and, "We will return to the year 1993."

“And let me tell you, we lived amazingly well!”

That’s some next-level bullshit right there. Surprising, even, as Russians tend to speak of the 1990s as a time of horrors for their country (not without justification), when many people were thrust into grinding poverty and the state was particularly dysfunctional.

Saying how Russians lived “amazingly well” in 1993, at the height of the 90s economic shock and downturn, seems like the sort of thing that would spark a rare moment of “Wait what, WTF?” even in the heads of hard believers of Putinism. It seems rather counter-productive to make as a claim, you know?

My best friend and his family and I look fondly at 90s. My best friend, his brother and I were teens. His parents had 3 kids, I was always inckuded in that fam. They also look well upon the 90s because they had escaped Russia, and were living in US. I doubt their family looks fondly upon it if they were still there. Putin only looks fondly because he was in secret police and intelligence. Amd saw how easily he could take it.

Take away the electronics, and it’s like 1993 … why did the Russians have no TVs, no stereos, no working cars, none of this?

And the EMP blast will in fact devastate their entire electrical grid far more than she realizes. So millions will not only be left without electronic communications, but left without refrigeration and lights, and for those homes not running on gas also stoves and heating.
