Basically V already wrote almost everything I wanted to(big thanks for your post, V!). Otherwise for my own couple cents:
“That isn't to say trans women should use men's bathrooms. They should use private restrooms where available.”
Very hard disagree here. We should use the one we are the most comfortable using. Want to hear my own voice here? I do not want to and will not be forced to use some sort of neutral or trans bathroom instead of the baseline women’s facilities whenever such a choice is being presented between the two. Do you honestly think you should be able to decide which crapper to force me onto based on somebody’s mental comfort or lack of it, while having absolutely NOTHING to do with my own actions or character, hell nothing even with me as a person, merely a boogeyman I am supposed to represent? Sorry but that will not fly with me and I suppose I’m not alone in my sentiment here.
To reiterate: If there are gendered bathrooms in a facility at all, I am using the women’s place and if somebody decides to harass me there on the trans basis, I will be legally merciless to them, going happily as far, as filing a suit if I feel insulted or slandered enough.
For my closing statement just gonna add how funny it is that it’s always the TERFs and their defenders bringing in poor abuse cases but somehow we don’t get the same treatment why exactly? Is it because in your minds we are still subconsciously labelled as male and therefore much more likely a perp than a victim by the toxic standards of these things?
ps.I was harassed and downright sexually assaulted SEVERAL times in public and social venue bathrooms in my life, some other traumatized woman’s comfort does not trump my own to be unbothered in a properly designated facility. I have had trauma, some of it sexual in fucking spades myself and you don’t see me venting it out by trying to keep people out of a crapper they prefer to shit in.
