My father was a career foreign service officer. After retiring from active duty, he did freedom of information work reviewing classified documents to determine if they were safe to release to the public. He would never, ever, have told me, his only child, any classified information from the documents he read.

I categorically reject the notion that a majority of white Americans will naturally turn to fascism in the future. A number of them will, certainly, we can see that already. But the majority? No.

Fascism has failed wherever it was tried. It sounds promising to bullies and bigots, but it has a nasty record of double-crossing allies. Nobody trusts a fascist.

Americans helped end fascism once, and we can certainly do it again.

In the fundamentalist conservative mindset, being aware of potential differences means being tempted by those differences.

Fundies believe that homosexuality or transgenderism is a matter of choice because everyone is born "normal", not gay or trans. Those deviations are deliberately chosen by sinful perverts for evil purposes, such as molesting children.

If kids learn about these sins, they might (a) not be properly horrified by them, (b) ignorantly trust such evil adults, and (c) be desensitized enough to experiment with such perversions themselves.

The only way to keep kids from becoming gay or trans is to keep them in a state of {holy} innocence i.e. complete ignorance. The fact that this doesn't work has yet to penetrate the bigot mindset.
