Most veterans I've met, even after 11 Sep, encouraged ne to stay in school and college and opposed war. Hell I once told cab driver the film Platoon terrified me of war. I still remember the look when he daid he wished I'd be in house or senate in 60s and early 70s. Because a fucking movie, a movie . Made me scared of how real fucking wars are. The assholes drooling for war are armchair patriots but I doubt they'd sign up.

Most of the families i knew in the Navy, the father got the money from the government, disbursed money to her for groceries and kids, he paid the bills, the rent/mortgage…
For the very few times the wife had a higher-paying job, she was in charge of the money about half the time.
Slowly, the pendulum swung. My wife had been living independently before we met, so we were never on that sort of footing, but SO many divorces… The day after the woman found out exactly what the SOB was getting paid, she found a lawyer to help her get a decent amount of it.

We used to visit Bear Lake, on the Utah/Idaho border. When you stand on the hills on either side of the lake, you can see the shore on the other side. Walk down those hills to the shore, so you’re closer to the opposite shore, and the lake is wide enough that the curve of the lake rises up to block the view of the shore.
On a flat Earth, the opposite shore would be clearer, not eclipsed.

This feels like they couldn’t quite bring themselves to go with either “most other people are NPCs” or “people who don’t agree with me are sheep influenced by malign forces” so instead tried to split the difference, but the result was highly abstract and borderline incoherent and this is the best metaphor they could come up with to explain it.
