“Today is my 14th birthday and it would be the best birthday present ever if you would vote NO on gay marriage.”
Why?
How does it affect you in the slightest fucking way?
“I really feel bad for the kids who have two parents of the same gender.”
I feel bad for kids whose parents are homophobes. ESPECIALLY ifthe kid is gay, but not only them.
“Even though some kids think it's fine, they have no idea what kind of wonderful experiences they miss out on.”
When I worked the suicide hotline in Virginia, a babysitter realized that there were four kids she was watching, but five beds in the house. They found the fifth in a toolbox dumped in a vacant lot behind the house. But at least the mom and her boyfriend were straight, right?
Sorry, I don’t have much tolerance for people who paint the parent relationships with rose-tinted glasses.
“I don't want more kids to get confused about what's right and okay.”
I’m sure you won’t. But the question about ‘right’ is what’s RIGHT for citizens of a secular society with a secular government. Do you really have any objective reason to object to SSM?
“I really don't want to grow up in a world where marriage isn't such a special thing anymore.”
And again, I have to ask how it affects you in teh slightest way?
Catholics believe that only Catholic ceremonies count. They have to live in a world where ANY religion can have a wedding, and non-religious organizations as well. Shucks. Darn. Deal with it.
“It's rather scary to think that when I grow up the legislature or the court can change the definition of any word they want.”
There’s absolutely no change to the definition of marriage. Same privileges, same responsibilities, same applicability in any agency’s policies that state ‘spouse.’
“ If they could change the definition of marriage then they could change the definition of any word.”
Sure. They can change ‘christainity’ from ‘religion’ to ‘a relationship with god’ and take away any 1st Amendment protections. Sure. Uh huh. That’ll happen.
Still don’t see how extending a basic right to 10% of the relationships in the country is an ACTUAL problem.
“People have the choice to be gay,”
Feel free to become gay for a year, then, to prove this.
“ but I don't want to be affected by their choice.”
HOW are you affected at fucking ALL?
“ People say that they were born that way, but I've met really nice adults who did change.”
Betcha haven’t.
