Um, no, the ruling theory of the US right now is Capitalism, and what you describe is the result of late-stage capitalism taking root. I know you idiots like to blame Marxism for everything, but Marxism isn’t the reason why wages have stagnated while the prices of goods and services have increased…

My paternal grandfather worked for the government during WW2 as an engineer and was retired when my dad was born. My Mawmaw raised 6 kids by herself on a single income after her first husband abandoned them and refused to pay child support. Their current house was from my Pawpaw’s parents.

Nicer cars in the 70s? I'd dispute that. Unless by nicer you mean "cooler" or "better looking" maybe, but that's a matter of opinion.

To a certain extent he has a point about more people needing multiple incomes to raise a family. He is typically grossly misguided about the source though. It’s Republican party pro-business policy that makes it that way. Making it easy for companies to treat employees badly and replace them when they try to negotiate. Letting companies off the hook when they do end up in court for violating the law. Fighting against minimum wages. All of this has pushed basic wages way down.

These are places built for poor people.

If that bothers you, you should be considering social and legal reforms that eliminate poverty, then “places built for poor people” will cease to exist.

I doubt OP lived in any decade they romanticise.

Yeah, the “nicer washing machines” thing too… no they were definitely NOT nicer in the 70s. I think that might be more of “mom washed my clothes for me in the 70s and today I have to do it myself waaaahh” thing for dude here…

I love my smart washer and dryer. They are a huge improvement over the old ones.

No, we didn’t. Ours used to walk every time you did a load unless you blocked it with cinderblocks. And it used the same amount of water every time, whether it was for four t-shirts or four bedsheets.

All the tech has improved, for phones, washing machines, toilets and cars. Not at the same rate, but it’s all improved. Your nostalgia filters are on the fritz, though, get those checked.

Those older cars were definitely a lot more durable. You get in a crash, and after maybe a bit of repair work and touching up your next of kin could sell the thing to help pay for your funeral. Though as the far right values property over human life, I can see why Dim Jim prefers the cars that were made back in the 1970’s over those that are made today.

Or heavy and solid enough such that an accident is more likely to be lethal... I still like them, though, the nostalgy of the cars my parents had when I was little. :) Impractical for parkings, maintenance and fuel costs, of course, I wouldn't want one.

Just to further elaborate on my point about 70s cars: The first car I remember my dad having was a ‘79 Mustang Indy Pace Car replica. Sure, it looked cool and was probably generally a better car than the previous generation, the “Mustang II”, but even though it was almost the ’80s, the US still hadn’t quite figured out how to put any serious performance in anything, with the still relatively new emissions standards and such. It was Ford’s biggest “performance car” at the time, and good grief, I don’t even wanna mention how much (I mean how little) horsepower the engine was putting out, lol. The base model of the 2022 Mustang would absolutely blow the doors of off it in any sort of race, and would be way safer, and deliver vastly better fuel economy to boot. Actually I think some of their cheaper small SUVs would too, lol.
