The japanese shouldn't have to apologize or pay for anything. Period. They make better products & pop-culture than the rest of Asia, therefore they don't owe china, southeast Asia or Korea an apology anymore than we owe them an apology for nuking Hiroshima or Nagasaki. In fact, none of them deserve any apologies. Fuck all the victims of the 2nd sino-japanese war. Every. Single. One. Of. Them. Japan is my favorite Asian country, therefore Japan should be the sovereign power in asia, not China. End of story.

I would say something about the complexities of apologies here but there is no point. This is straight up racism, blind nationalism or some sort of fan boy extremism. In any case it requires no space for subtle points, there is nothing subtle here.

Non sequitur!

Hey, India! Britain here. We would love to apologise about the looting, the armed occupation, the engineered famines, the death toll in the tens of millions. But it turns out because we did give the world Paddington Bear, we don’t actually have to be sorry about a thing! Toodles!
Some used to defend fascism by saying that, at least, the trains ran on time. The updated version apparently refers to anime. Gotta admit, this sounds even more stupid.
Look, pal, I like animanga as much as the next nerd, but even I don’t act like that’s in any way an excuse for Imperial Japan’s crimes during WW2…
The film by David Lean “Bridge on the River Kwai”. While fictional in itself, it’s a telling of what happened to prisoners of war in Burma.
It’s not only the Imperial Japanese who had some explaining to do, OP.
Oh go fuck yourself.
I come from a country that was profoundly affected by the Japanese occupation so much that they made the Americans look like the good guys. Hell, my great-grandfather survived the Bataan Death March, which is why I think he’d disapprove of his great-grandson being a massive weeb.
But I can appreciate Japanese food, media, culture, and BL without denying their war crimes. Just as I can appreciate American cultural products while acknowledging their brutal occupation of the Philippines, or how I can appreciate Chinese toys, video games, and danmei while despising their government’s autocratic grip on its citizens, their aggression in the South China Sea, or the ongoing genocide of the Uyghurs. You have no excuse for your war crime apologia.
Oh, and one more thing: How about there being no one leading power in Asia, period? (Personally, I would prefer an Asian equivalent to the European Union– an Asian Union, if you will– but for that to really get off the ground we’d need the majority of Asian nations to be solidly democratic, not flawed democracies at best and autocracies at worst.)
Confused?
