The Russian central bank has tied the Ruble to gold. This isn’t a challenge to the Dollar, it’s a move to prop up the Ruble. Russia has a big enough gold reserve they can probably get away with this for a while. As soon as the economic situation changes and people start wanting to exchange Rubles for gold Russia will abandon this.

…SIGH What I’m trying to say is that I just cannot try to comprehend this sheer inanity anymore. I mean, I always try to understand other people’s reasoning, no matter how far-fetched it may be. It’s just who I am, I cannot stand something truly illogical. The world has to make sense to me.

A great example of crackpottery being ultimately about contrarianism, like the study that people who find it plausible that Osama bin Laden is still alive were also more likely to find it plausible that he had already died long before he was officially assassinated.
I don’t think sensible investers would want to buy the currency from a country rapidly becoming an international pariah and who’s engaged in a losing war, whether backed by gold, silver, bitcoin or even timber.
You have to appreciate the irony of a gold fetishist terrified of fiat money peddling NFTs.
Personally, I think NATO coming to Russia’s borders was the strategic blunder of the century, and maybe Russia has legitimate security concerns about the region.
But Putin has made it abundantly clear that he gives no fucks about security concerns or the Donbas or being part of the international order. On obviously trumped-up charges, he has invaded Ukraine and unleashed human suffering on Russians and Ukrainians alike on a level unseen since World War Two.
Garrison’s ideas are almost entirely based on spite for whatever he perceives the “Deep State” to be supporting. He thinks they’re supporting Ukraine, he supports Russia. They support vaccines, he supports drinking piss. They support law enforcement he supports the anti-government movement, but if they support Black Lives Matter he’ll go the opposite way all without a second thought.

Hopefully that you realize that evil yet logical people still almost never do the same kind of damage that misguided and deluded morons do. After all, even evil and logical people actually do understand that need for a strong and healthy society around them. If they don’t, and they keep spouting off the need for crap that leads to Mad Max levels of chaos and insanity, then they most certainly are not logical. The misguided and deluded morons, however, can see the few benefits in it (yes there are some) but stop thinking there, if they even actually thought that far, and can’t realize that the certain price is much higher than any potential benefit.
I also though find it interesting that all of this is surrounding his own attempt at selling his own NFTs, and frankly, I’ve known for almost a decade that any cryptocurrency is certainly a scam. And those who start selling any new form of crypto, they are always fully aware of the scam. Ben is not as stupid as he makes himself look.
