I’m sure that just like today, the media in the time of Jesus helped the Roman government put out propaganda to gaslight the people. Explaining what a wonderful government the people had…how thankful they should be for the crumbs they were “allowed” to keep…and demonizing Jesus as a criminal and heretic.

Also, there were no "media" in first-century Judea: just occasional official pronouncements and word of mouth.

I’m serious, for once I actually WANT the Biblical Judeo-Christian God to be real, just so I can see him go all “Old Testament” on the Trumpists collective asses for worshipping the Orange Calf instead of himself.

I can draw a parallel from my own experiences: I do BDSM. While I can do it at home - so long as it doesn’t make too much noise - even the quieter things just feel more open and free when I’m doing it at an appropriate event. It’s like I’m not hiding myself, or at least not nearly as much, which enhances the experience.
Likewise a lot of these are people who felt like they had to express their bigotry in private, but Trump made them feel more free to do it openly. Though a big difference is that he didn’t really do anything to make it safer for them.

I think it’s more than that. You’ve seen the ones who openly fantasize about killing us on this site. I think they believe that if Trump is in power they’ll get to actually go around killing us. And Trump would actually love that, to have his “army” killing liberals and POC and LGBT people and PWD in his name.

The parallels are astounding aside from the facts that there was no official media in Roman times and instead news was spread mainly by word of mouth, and everything else you said was an outright lie. But hey, if you make everything up, they are indeed astounding…

Like this guy who, during a Trump meeting in 2016, shouted “Jew-S-A.” I don’t think that he would have dared to do it in the meetings held by other GOP primary candidates or Clinton.
And Trump didn’t needed to do anything other than giving them a safe space in public discussion by merely existing.
