I’m starting to wonder if maybe there are an awful lot of people on the right who simply can’t believe that women can be strong, competent politicians, or leaders in general, because that’s a fundamental “masculine” trait. I mean, look at the likes of Marjorie Taylor-Greene, Lauren Bobert, Kristi Noem, and Marsha Blackburn. They’re pretty dumb and barely competent at best, and the first two are kind of trashy. Noem’s also a sociopath. And then there’s Nancy Mace and Susan Collins, who present themselves as centrists who disagree with the party a lot, but mostly just fall in line, making them look weak and wishy-washy. The only women in the US Republican Party (that I know enough about to comment on) who appear to be strong and competent are/were Lisa Murkowski and Liz Cheney… and they destroyed Cheney, and tried and failed to do so to Murkowski. And yet, the Democratic Party is approaching gender parity and there are a lot of strong, competent women in it.
Add in the fact that racists often see non-white women as “masculine-by-default” in both appearance and personality simply because their facial features are subtly different from white women, and a small number of trans people have won as Democrats in local and state governments, and they’re going to be wondering if all those highly masculine-seeming women (from their perspective) aren’t “real” women.
