We were visiting Istanbul in the 80's, and one day my father ran out of cash in the hotel. He came over to where my mother and I were sitting and asked her for money. She opened her purse and counted it out for him.

They were so intent on their transaction they never noticed the hush that fell over the lobby as everyone stared at them in shock. Just complete shock at a woman handing her husband money.

They were equals, Henry. My mother handled their money because she was better at it. And my father wasn't threatened by that at all.
