“Then how can you prove that evolution happened?”
Every textbook, they tell the student, ‘This is what happened.’ AND they tell them, ‘this is how we know’ and list the major evidence for that conclusion.
That’s how.
to DISprove it, you’d have to either pony up a better theory for the evidence observed or you’d have to show how the conclusion is not supported.
Saying ‘Nuh-UH!’ doesn’t do either.
“How can you prove that a big bang happened?”
By the science.
“That is faith WITHOUT evidence; at least evidence that would hold in a court of science!”
The court of science is called peer review. It holds up or it doesn’t make it into textbooks. Like Nebraska Man didn’t make it into textbooks. That was a mistake, corrected by scientists.
“Now I do understand that you may have what SEEMS like evidence (such as similarity between animals), but how is that valid evidence?”
Again, find a better naturalistic way to explain it as a step to proving some other theory.
“If you would be an automobile designer, then OBVIOUSLY your cars would be quite similar, only getting better each model!”
Kinda weird how every similarity is proof of a single designer, while every difference is proof of how diverse God’s plan is.
“In the same way, God created creatures that have similarities! Imagine 1000 years into the future, not knowing that humans created cars, and saying that they evolved from some scrap metal! That would be a stupid assumption to make.”
Only if in a thousand years we have metal structures that reproduce biologically.. This is a stupid objection.
“As to believers loving God out of requirement, that is NOT true.”
Oh, absolute fucking bullshit.
I was a believer and at a young age I had questions. The authorities around me were not only unable to answer my questions, they could not tolerate that i even HAD questions. Half the responses I got were blaming me for having the TEMERITY to question god! How DARE I!?!?
And very, very rarely does anyone try to convince me that God is real without mentioning that i face the threat of Hell.
If your greatest motivation is not fear, why do y’all ALWAYS throw the fear at me?
“You obviously have NEVER loved Him at all.”
Him, I loved. Because i hadn’t been told anything else.
But once I questioned, everyone was afraid i’d turn baptist or catholic and tried to scare me back to the faithful.
“But I can almost guarantee that if someone rescued you from dying a certain death, you would at least FEEL GRATEFULL to the person.”
Thing is, that person never showed up at the hospital.
I’m TOLD that i face a horrible fate.
I’m TOLD that there’s this guy that’ll save me from that fate.
And I’m TOLD that I have to just have faith in him and his rescue, not to question it, or this rescuer will LEAVE ME TO THAT FATE.
Kind of a prick.
“ In the same way, we love God because He saved us from eternal damnation and separation from Him.”
Well, you don’t really know that, yet. Could be that the Mormons are right. Or the Muslims. Or the Shinto. I mean, you’re convinced, but you can’t prove it.
“God didn't force me to love Him...”
But force is certainly part of your package for me.
Even you haven’t been able to talk about your belief in god without the threat of eternal damnation.
"I love Him because He loved me first! I am not AFRAID or SCARED of God at all!”
But you think I should be.
The threat is implicit in your argument.
