I used to enjoy watching Youtuber and Batfan KWing quite a bit, until he did a reaction video to E3 some years back that showed off the Far Cry 5 trailer. He made a snide remark concerning the insane fundamentalist Christian antagonist, something about how “they’d never make the bad guy from a certain ‘religion of peace,’” or something to that affect, and I sort of lost a lot of respect for the guy. I get that Luke’s a Christian, and that’s fine; but then he went and ignored the games that did feature Muslims as bad guys, and whined because suddenly, one game showed the very worst aspects of his religion and now Christians were being persecuted again.
As previously stated, by both myself in another comment to this r-word and by Creativerealms above me, most terrorists in the US are Christian, because most people in the US are Christian and a non-zero percentile of them take umbrage with not living in a Christian theosophic society where gays are put in their place, and should the shit ever hit the fan, then yes, at least one such group of said J-humpers would indeed mobilize into a legit threat to actual life and freedom. Yes, a post-apocalyptic Christian cult would be more focused on wiping out the gays than on survival, because what matters to them is scoring brownie points with Cosmic Caligula, not continuing the existence of the human race despite it’s foibles.
Now, I doubt very much that a team of devs and writers as experienced as Naughty Dog would resort to such flatness of character as to make all the bad guys nothing but foaming homophobes, and center the entire game around Ellie’s continuing quest for wasteland poon and comfortable shoes, which makes you just another homophobic Chicken Little, crying about how the gays are making the sky fall.
