Recently, there was a scare campaign about Sudanese gangs terrorising people there, exploited by the former LNP government. It worked for awhile, the way such xenophobia does, but they were given the thumbs down in the 2022 election. Cartoonists mocked it by putting up memes about Kooris worried about criminal gangs, ie the old convict chain gangs.
