Well when I was not a theist I did pretty much whatever I wanted, ie sleep with as many women as I wanted etc. If I stopped believing in objective moral values I would definitely start doing that one again if I thought that any feeling of it being wrong was just an illusion. Just being honest.
I find it fascinating that whenever a new "dinosaur" is discovered, they never show the actual excavation but only an artistic representation of what scientists "think" the animal may have looked like. I'm only asking about the moral aspect. So I'm not interested in the likelihood or posibility of any state doing this, but simply if, let's say, Monaco made heresy illegal, would Catholics be able to deny it as immoral? St Thomas Aquinas says that murder of the soul (heresy) is worse thsn murder of the body, and many heretics were killed in the Spanish Inquisition. I know the numbers are greatly exaggerated, but let's be honest, heretics were killed for being heretics, and repentabt heretics were mercifully strangled. ISIS executes those who don't convert to Islam, but that's immoral because islam is wrong. It's a different story when talking about Catholicism because Catholicism is the correct religion. And if you accept that the state exists to help us be more virtuous, then stopping heresy fron spreading using lethal force would be justified.
It probably wouldn't be prudent to kill heretics because ideas can spread over the internet and so on, but again, my question is about the morality of this. So was it moral to kill those heretics back during the Spanish Inquisition?

I believed that evolution and the account of the Bible about creation could exist along side of each other very well. I just didn't see what the big argument was all about. I had some friends who had been studying the Bible much longer than I had who saw it differently...Eventually, I came to the conclusion, through my study of the Bible and science, that the two positions of evolution and creation just could not fit together. There are some real problems with the idea that God created through evolution... My prayer is that you will have this same experience!

I won't go into all the well-known weaknesses of Darwin's theory. This book is a rather desperate attempt to "re-introduce" the theory to a public that is mostly skeptical of its claims. The book abounds with logical fallacies. One is that a change in the proportion of certain individuals within a population (e.g. bacteria resistant to antibiotics) is somehow PROOF of that population evolving into another species. Yet the actual PROOF is conspicuously missing. The bacteria remain bacteria.
One thing I'd like to point out. The God of the Old Testament did what he did because in those days, it was better to die than continue to sin. Jesus' death changed that, both for the future and retroactively I believe. But yeah.... it's not that he was a murderer. As a Sothern Baptist pastor, I want to say that a common misconception is... I think represented from the comment above... is that if you are unrepentant and about to be disciplined by your church that you can just leave tell the leadership that you are withdrawing your membership. There is nothing in the Scripture that supports such a notion. In fact, while I would acknowledge that a person can leave any church for any reason; this does not nullify the churches responsibility to go forward with their actions. One of the purposes of church discipline is to SHAME the person who is in sin.
"Free thinkers" are actually bondage thinkers because they are still trapped in their sin, they are blind and refuse to admit they are locked in their own cages but Jesus holds the key to eternal life for them; all they have to do is open their eyes and freely receive Jesus' salvation; only then can they become free in their thinking.

I recently had a conversation with my 3 girls, 12, 12, and 14 about the rapture. They indicated they are saved but of course, I cant be absolutely certain. Anyways, I told them that if by chance they are here when all the christians disappear, to understand what has happened, etc. Then it dawned on me: They will see people still here who have or are professing Christians and that it will confuse them and make them doubt the rapture. I was stumped at this point. Then one of them said: mom, if you disappear and we are still here, THEN we'll know the rapture has happened! Wild thought huh?
I wanted them to know, on the outside chance they are still here, what has happened and what to do. But it is clear, and some of you may want to let others know, that it will be confusing when many pews are still filled with "christians" after the rapture happens. It may be these "christians" that will help society think we have been abducted by aliens or something since they are still here.... what a thought eh?
