The judge just said outright that if the jury comes back with a guilty verdict - and if he “accepted” the verdict which pardon me but I don’t think he has the option not to in a trial by jury - he expects it to be overturned.

Everything about this is both confusing and horribly sad.

I don’t know if it’s better or worse but I actually suspect the note might have been to convince family and friends that it wasn’t a suicide driven by depression and clumsily absolve them of emotional distress, or persuade them his afterlife is with God rather than the damnation associated with suicide so they don’t feel they will be separated and suffering even in the afterlife.

Actually it is entirely legal for an adult to marry a child in most states with the parent’s permission. Notably the child’s consent is not a factor, and for reasons that make my brain scream for mercy if I ever try to understand them parents have forced underaged rape victims to marry their rapist and not just with religion as the excuse but the perception that their daughter (and it’s ALWAYS a girl this happens to) is a slut for being raped at 14.
