If unions actually negotiated worse pay or conditions for their members employers would be welcoming them with open arms and a fancy dinner instead of ringing the alarm in a fit of shrieking hysteria and skirting the law in whatever way is necessary to punish workers for even thinking of the word. And the fact that employers do with frightening regularity break the law outright is another reason unions are needed. As one employee with the threat of a fabricated black mark on your work history endangering your chances of getting another job in the future and further weakening your position if you do get another job you’re all but powerless to hold a business accountable to the law even with the law clearly on your side. As a large, organized group with the pooled funds for a prolonged court battle? You have a fighting chance.

From a purely mathematical standpoint union dues will never outstrip the addition to your wages. From the practical view of someone grounded in reality dues are what pay for additional benefits and those benefits drastically reduce the cost of living meaning you keep more of what you take home in addition to taking home more.

I keep hearing the expression “you’ve got to spend money to make money” but it’s really funny how that never seems to apply when it’s a situation like this with immediate measurable benefits but rather when being prompted to essentially make a financial gamble, forced to contend with an extortionate monopoly, or throwing money at an outright scam.

At this point in Cheeto Stubs’ presidency he had started a trade war that necessitated a more than 28 billion dollar bailout of impacted Americans. A bailout that in the case of the 7.7 billion earmarked for farmers it became extremely noticeable that farms owned and operated by black people were visibly stonewalled.

After already implementing policy of treating migrants and refugees in ways illegal under existing U.S. and international laws pretending the legal framework that they were applying for simply didn’t exist he began deporting them without their children who were held in poorly supervised detention centers likened by many to dog kennels. When children were finally reunited with their parents they were often psychologically disturbed, seemingly deliberately conditioned to be hostile to anyone that looked like them. Among other things they were forced to recite the American Pledge of Allegiance despite there not being any intention of treating them as anything other than criminal invaders who do not belong there and whose pledge counted for less than nothing, demeaning the Pledge and simply using it as an insult far more than refusing to stand upright for it. Some children were never reunited with their families at all. And if you have a complete sociopathic lack of any concern for anyone not American to your standards I should note that the people who detained the kids were psychologically impacted too, feeling hollow and disquieted around their own children because of what they’d done.

Trump also flagrantly insulted most of your allies, constantly leaked sensitive information compromising the military, and oh yeah FLAT OUT BETRAYED THE KURDS HAVING TROOPS ABANDON THEIR POSITION ON ZERO NOTICE AT THE REQUEST OF TURKEY AND CLEARING THE WAY FOR A TURKISH OFFENSIVE THAT RESULTED IN THE AT THAT POINT ROUTED ISLAMIC STATE REGAINING THE FIGHTERS AND LEADERSHIP THE KURDS HAD CAPTURED RETURNING THEM TO BEING A SERIOUS THREAT TO THE REGION AND EMBOLDENING LATER TERRORIST ATTACKS!

And other little niggles like abusing his office for his own personal enrichment, completely delegitimizing not just the free press but the concept of reality itself, constantly destroying documents he was legally required to preserve, denouncing America’s own intelligence agencies on international television, paying so little attention to any of his briefings that everyone who worked for him had to constantly repeat his name to keep him interested and use flash cards, it coming out he’s a serial sex offender, openly making every attempt possible to obstruct investigations into Russian interference in your elections because he knew they led back to him and working overtime to reframe the entire scope of the investigation as being about him and not Russia breaking the law in plain sight and trying to fire people he had no legal ability to fire but like everything else in his life before that point he hadn’t been punished for any of it.

And this is all BEFORE he botched the COVID response. He pointedly pretended it didn’t even exist. Then told the states they were on their own, except that if they actually DID ANYTHING he’d overrule them and force them to open up. And seized paid for PPE, auctioned off the strategic national stockpile while using FEMA - who draw from that stockpile - to bid against States to drive up the prices, fanned vaccine conspiracies only to later try to take credit for the first vaccine to roll out which was developed in a German lab and wasn’t part of his “warp speed” initiative which turned out to be spending most of its money on what can only be described as shell corporations with nothing to offer. And you know, fully encouraging the lawless chaos that’s dragged this bullshit out across not just the United States but the entire continent. Oh yeah, and the FUCKING COUP ATTEMPT.

Right… a Frenchman who uses American English and notably speaks with contempt about “welfare” which the French call something different: Protection Sociale or social protection and hold in high regard as basic right. Repeating American conservative scare chords dependent on American ignorance of foreigners rather than the scare chords used by French conservatives and also quite ironically pulling a reversal on how they view the issue of multiculturalism vis-a-vis the English-speaking world.

Also, France is quite notorious throughout Europe for how badly they treat most immigrants and how much contempt they have for individual cultures demanding they conform to French norms with a ferocity that outstrips even America who at least pay some lip service to the idea of being a melting pot. Something especially pronounced in their attitudes when dealing with those from countries formerly colonized by France, which even today a lot of French politicians refuse to recognize as ever having been countries to begin with, fearing that they themselves might be colonized and denying formal citizenship to such people and their descendants even after generations living in France.

Even somebody coming from France who finds it all just the normal way things are would have to be working pretty hard not to see a deliberate singling out and exclusion of migrants from French society, an exclusion to the point police and the normally sacrosanct medical services simply don’t bother with calls from many of these increasingly boxed in migrant communities which are noticeably declining into slums though most Frenchmen are reluctant to call them ghettos... mostly on the basis that it sounds too American and it’s not just black people or any one race that are confined there. And “don’t bother with calls” from these communities is a far cry from being immune to arrest, indeed once one toe leaves these “sensitive districts” scrutiny is constant and arrest can for come any reason or none at all. Although America still takes the cake on that front with the added danger of summary execution.

Anyone of colour is expected to follow “the law” even when what they’re being subjected to is not lawful.

To be stopped and searched at a whim. To have identification and property seized without cause or redress. To have their right to be in a public place challenged. To not have their right to self defense recognized even if fired upon. To be put in mortal danger and have the supposed peacekeepers regularly actively escalate into violence with the onus always on them to de-escalate but at the same time have any attempt at de-escalation be viewed as disrespect which is grounds enough for a fatal gunshot. To be fined beyond legal limits, to be jailed when others would be fined or simply warned, to be a hated invader in their home threatened daily by neighbours whose rights trump theirs and who would be considered justified pretty much by default in using lethal force if they ever felt the slightest bit threatened. And be celebrated for defending their “rights” to completely disregard the law because it inconveniences them.

The same people who would dismiss any wrongdoing if a black man was shot dead because he entered a 7-11 without a shirt with a policy not to serve shirtless people posted on the door and just say “if they followed the law it wouldn’t have happened” up in arms if the same 7-11 posted a mask policy and a white person not only came in without a mask but assaulted the sales associates for telling them to put one on and would expect the police to arrest the clerk. The same people who outright legalized vehicular manslaughter if it got rid of BLM protesters because being where they could be seen and heard was simply annoying and could disrupt shopping out for blood when “Canadian” Truckers were dispersed after days of playing British Bulldogs with the RCMP, ignoring orders to stop blocking roads in a deliberate bid to cause economic damage, and honking their horns in the dead of night specifically to harass and psychologically torment citizens.

And if we law abiding masses don’t like it? Well we can pack our shit and leave. They have no obligation to fit into society’s demands. It doesn’t matter that it’s “our” society if it gets in the way of their “rights” and to deny them that is the tyranny of the majority.

There are thousands of denominations that all follow Abrahamic scriptures, each of them born from the “true” religion being the law and somebody standing up and saying “you’re doing it wrong” and splintering off to worship God the “right” way denouncing everyone that came before and the inevitable splinter groups that repeat this cycle after. A tradition that dates back to Jesus who saw a people that lived by the letter of scripture but were selfish, self-righteous, quick to harm one another or excuse blatant heartlessness, and more concerned with lording grand displays of their faith over those they deemed “unworthy” than they were being anything approaching good people.

And Abrahamic scripture itself pulled this on previous pantheistic beliefs, beliefs adherents worked to wipe from memory meaning if the “true” religion is one of those - and frankly speaking, if there was one true God that communicated with humans from the very beginning wouldn’t it make more sense for an earlier belief system to be correct rather than one that comes much later - it’s gone forever.

Some of you have noted that “Al” is actually quite neutral as nicknames go. To me this indicates the severity of the control being exerted over this person’s life by their parents. This isn’t just about who they identify as but indicates there is a strict idea being enforced as to how they present themselves to other people. Simply having an affectionate nickname is the problem, not that it might suggest they’re male. They cannot be Al, Alex, Lexxie, or anything they are not called at home. They are to speak their full name “properly” at all times and probably have a long list of coached behaviour to adhere to otherwise they’re a “failure and embarrassment” at proper interaction. To me, it’s a possible sign they cannot be their own person in ANY way the rest of us take for granted even to how they’re expected to speak among supposed (and probably carefully selected) friends.

Yeah, just ignore that your own child is too terrified of you and what they know you can do if they tell you who they are and you disagree… focus only on how personally insulted you are that their fears are being treated as valid and not disobedient nonsense to be “disciplined” out of them so you can get your grandkids who’d better not get any funny ideas about who they are when you make that clear to them either.

I was under the impression that one of the main problems was that absolutely nothing was an immutable fact in the setting of 1984 from history to whether the Earth orbited the sun or if it was the other way around. Everything is just changed to be convenient to what people needed to believe.

Your Bible is an absolutely terrifying tool for grooming children. It’s rife with sex, violence, and evil acts portrayed as good. It normalizes abuse in many forms. It endorses incest and rape, often both at the same time. And it’s entire purpose is to dictate to the reader who they are expected to be under various threats of harm and abandonment. “Love” in Biblical terms is very one sided and has more to do with fear and obedience than any kind of affection.

You’re out to censor reality because it interferes with your indoctrination and underneath your fearmongering your arguments all frame the entire point of human life and any relationship to be strictly to facilitate sexual reproduction for the purpose of repeating the chain of indoctrination and anything preventing a child from coming to that conclusion is your beef.

To not want children is considered “wrong” to you. To have no sexual desires whatsoever is considered “wrong” to you. To be in a relationship that for one reason or another does not produce a child to indoctrinate into repeating the cycle and to parrot your opinions is “wrong” to you. To abuse a child into seeking sex they don’t want to have is preferable to you. To shatter a child’s mind and remake them into something you have more use for than the person they were born as is preferable to you. A loveless relationship filled with abuse and resentment to which the physical act of sex is the only connection both parties have - an act that isn’t always willing for both parties but very much not considered something that can be refused - that only happened to acquire a child to groom into eventually seeking the same is preferable to you.

Really now, how thin is the disguise for this kind of grooming when the most uttered phrase in response to objections is “I want grandkids” simply referencing sex indirectly? Trying to add a false degree of separation of time and generations to distract from the here and now and at the same time diminish the immediate target implying they don’t matter as much as theoretical future people?

In spouting your vilest delusions you betray your actual intentions and the fear that they will no longer be normal. So you must narrow “normal” to your own terms and alter the nature of others to justify the way you live your life. By censoring the real world and what is normal in it you are better able to quietly steer people away from natural development into your manufactured norms. With the threat of harm and abandonment, the imposition of an unnatural shame, and all under the false pretense of the “love” you only understand in terms of sex, power, and fear.

It’d be pitiful if it weren’t despicable.

I just learned that Disney was technically it’s own government within the U.S. Or at least it was until they objected to DeSantis making it illegal to in any way indicate the existence of anyone that doesn’t fit rigid hetero-normative expectations with a bill that pretended to be about “teaching” kids about sexuality but was immediately invoked to shut down a Pride event which doesn’t involve any kind of education.

So because this private corporation did not toe the government line and stated it would lobby to appeal DeSantis decided he suddenly really likes regulation and hates business getting involved in politics.

His snotty statement that “Disney has alienated a lot of people, now” is physically painful to think about when his bullshit bill is entirely about alienating people based on who they are and punishing people who accept them.

Party of Lincoln, Reagan, Family Values, Small Government, Free Market, etc.

Disney might be a candy-coated sweatshop that buys and sells souls, but they were entirely within their rights to make a statement about their stance on the bill. Even if it turned out to be a stance that they stuck their finger up and tested the direction of the wind.

Religious fundamentalists don’t feel oppressed because society hates them, they feel oppressed because deep down they know their beliefs are false. And so their guilty conscience demands everyone else be monsters so they feel they have a place in the world and the constant grinding knowledge that they hurt everyone around them for their own selfish reasons they know they falsely attribute to a higher power they don’t believe in just deepens their need to persecute and be persecuted.
