I didn’t have twenty dollars, but I have about five ones. So, not as much value in my pocket as the officer, but I had what I needed to get the soda I wanted.
For a vending machine that only took coins and $1’s, the twenty was pretty worthless.
So, maybe the only ULTIMATE VALUE in my life is missing without God, but I still have kids, a wife, a grandkid, and lots of Legos. So, I can get by.

Because it involves hating the Jews, and, unfortunately, there’s a very long pattern in Western/Christian society (and others, such as Islamic/Arab society, but that’s not the point right now) of reflexive “Jews bad” that’s never really been properly questioned—we got closer to it post-World-War-Two, but that was very, very, narrow, and only really done in Germany—and so you get strange alliances like that.
The KKK and the Nation of Islam were allies, for instance; this was partially because they both liked segregation, but also because both of them hated the Jews.
Also because, if I had to guess, these people were taught some jingoistic history, learned that the US isn’t the Greatest Country Ever to Exist (TM) and promptly overcorrected by deciding that if the US *opposed* them it meant they were good, and that’s how you get “anti-imperialists” cheering on Russia, an almost textbook case of empire, and its genocidal, colonial war on Ukraine. Also because in those spaces, sympathy (even to the point of listening to or reading the arguments of) the Bad Guys are taken as Heretical, and thus cannot happen, which means they’re not exposed to those other arguments.

The full sentiment is that no matter how great you feel that your need for sex is, you do not have the right or authority to decide who has to fuck you. It would follow that you also cannot decide who she does NOT fuck.

The Christian Science Monitor is so weird to me. On the one hand, it’s established by a crackpot sect of Christianity that believes in this shit… but on the other hand, it’s a legit journalistic outlet with Pulitzer Prize winners as alumni, was critical of McCarthyism (and named it as such), and was praised by Nelson Mandela for being his only source of news in captivity. It’s odd.

Also, for the longest time, I didn’t realize “Christian Science” referred to a sect. I assumed it was a science magazine for Christians interested in science and/or scientists who were devout Christians.
